Each Reading Room is locally maintained by individuals who actively study and practice Christian Science. Most are members of a local Church of Christ, Scientist. Both Reading Rooms and churches are dedicated to helping visitors discover the peace, comfort, and spiritual solutions available to all from God.

The first Christian Science Reading Room was established in 1888 to make available Mary Baker Eddy’s seminal book on the Bible and Christian healing: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. Today, there are more than 1,500 Reading Rooms worldwide — and they continue to serve local communities and make available literature published or sold by The Writings of Mary Baker Eddy and The Christian Science Publishing Society.

As well as having resources to aid your spiritual study and prayer, many Reading Rooms also provide online access to Christian Science web resources.

The Holy Bible

the-books-bible-s-h-prose-works_referenceThe source of inspiration for millions, nothing matches the soaring poetry and promise which speaks directly to the heart. It has been called God’s love letters to His children. You can find a variety of translations, as well as Bible reference books.

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy

Of all Bible study aids (concordances, commentaries, dictionaries) this is the one in greatest demand. This companion to the Bible was written by a woman who searched the Bible for answers about how Jesus was able to heal the sick, feed thousands, and raise the dead. After a near-fatal accident, her spiritual revelation and subsequent quick recovery led to a life of amazing healing work and to the publication of this book. It has 600 pages of spiritual wisdom, Biblical insight, practical guidance, and blunt calls for honest discipleship, followed by 100 pages of letters from readers freed from illness and sin by reading Science and Health.

Prose Works by Mary Baker Eddy

In her central work, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy explains that Christ Jesus’ teaching is based on spiritual laws. Here, in this collection, she shows how to apply those Christianly scientific laws in effective healing ministry. Throughout this compilation, which includes sermons, articles, and correspondence with churches, Mary Baker Eddy invites readers on a journey to experience the power, grace, and promise of Christian Science.

Generations of readers, in accepting this invitation, have found themselves face to face with the compelling fire of Christianity’s original message of healing. And in studying these writings, they find they aren’t simply reading about healing, but are being healed by what they are reading – a message of Christianity’s timeless regenerating power in our lives today.
